This Apple Taught Me Not to Judge a Fruit by Its Name
The '90s called and it wants its "z" back.

I was first drawn to the Hunnyz Apple because of the name. It sounds more like a gimmicky candy from the '90s than an apple. But don't let the silly name fool you, Hunnyz has impressive roots, and it tastes pretty good, too.
Hunnyz is yet another apple in the Honeycrisp family tree, crossed with the popular Crimson Crisp this time. The folks behind it seem to be pretty confident in that pairing, too. The Hunnyz logo literally says, "THE APPLE." Yes, that's exactly how the text is styled.
Tasting Notez

I'll admit the weird name had me expecting disappointment. Once I pushed that aside, I realized it was a very solid apple. Now, I certainly wouldn't go so far as to say it's THE APPLE, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Hunnyz.
One of the first apples I reviewed was the Jazz Apple, and I called it the "perfect prop apple." It had all the visual and audio goodies you'd want—loud crunch and juicy flesh—but not much flavor. The Hunnyz Apple reminded me of the Jazz Apple, but this time there was flavor to write home about.

Hunnyz is delightfully crunchy, very juicy, and the skin is barely noticeable. It might actually have the best skin of any apple I've tried so far. On top of that nice textural experience, there's a subtle sweetness as well. Not quite on the same level as a purebred Honeycrisp or a SweeTango, but solid nonetheless.
Honey is a flavor that's often evoked in apples, and that's clearly what they're going for with the goofy "Hunnyz" name. It's a solid sweet apple, but doesn't hit the "honey" note as hard as the SugarBee Apple. And there's really not much tartness at all.
The Peanut Butter Test
In case you didn't know, apple slices dipped in peanut butter is an elite snack. As part of this apple reviewing venture, I also want to find out which apple tastes best with peanut butter.
Sweet one-note apples generally aren't my favorite with peanut butter, but that changes if they lean more toward the honey flavor. I love a PB & Honey sandwich, so it just works for me. The great crunch of the Hunnyz is a bonus for dipping, too.
The Final Bite

Typically, a quirky name like "Hunnyz" doesn't bode well for quality—what are they compensating for? I shouldn't be reminded of an early 2000s doll franchise when munching on an apple. Though, it did get me to buy the apple in the first place, so maybe it worked? All that aside, this is a solid upper tier apple that deserves to be taken seriously.
