Welcome to The Digestible!

But what is it?

Welcome to The Digestible!

Well, I finally did it. After years of posting about snacks, pizza, and any weird food product that came across my feeds on social media, I decided it was time to launch a food blog/newsletter. But I want this to be different.

Jokingly, I've referred to The Digestible as "a recipe blog without recipes." I won't be providing detailed ingredient lists or step-by-step guides to help you cook. My goal is for The Digestible to be entertaining, whether you care deeply about food or not. I like to play with my food, and I hope that sense of discovery and experimentation comes across in the writing.

So, what do you have to look forward to if you subscribe? Things are bound to change over time, but I'm kicking things off with three columns.

Tasting Notes

One day I had the random idea that it would be funny to review apples. I've reviewed tech products professionally for over a decade, but never food. And why limit myself to only apples? I love trying new and interesting products. This is the section where all of that goes.

Apples are the main thing I'm reviewing at the moment–you can see the full rankings here. I've also written about Guy Fieri's Waterloo sparkling water collab and Peelerz candy. Basically, if I find something worth talking about, you'll see it in Tasting Notes.

Pizza Friday

If you've been following me for a while, you may remember that I used to have a pizza blog called "Pizza Friday." Long story short: I got really into pizza in 2020 and started documenting my weird creations. All of those pizzas will now be found here.

Admittedly, I've toned down the weirdness a bit. Once you make Filet-o-Fish Pizza, there's no other direction to go. These entries are also probably the closest I get to "recipe blog" content. I talk about the ingredients and the thought process behind them, then give a rating to each pizza.

Food For Thought

The newest and emptiest column is called "Food For Thought," and I'm not entirely sure what it will be. The only piece I've written for it so far is a story about why I started drinking smoothies every morning. Spoiler alert: Urgent Care was involved.

I think "story" is probably a good indicator of the type of stuff I'll be putting here. Not a review, not a pizza, but any food-adjacent topic I might want to talk about. I have no shortage of opinions on food to share.

Now, this is not my full-time job, and I've never had a "serious" website before, so I can't make any promises about what The Digestible will be. All I'm aiming for is to get out a few pieces each week and keep the topics diverse. Let's just have some fun.
